An abbreviation (from Latin brevis "short") is a shortened form of a word or phrase.
Usually, but not always, it consists of a letter or group of letters
taken from the word or phrase. For example, the word "abbreviation" can
itself be represented by the abbreviation "abbr." or "abbrev."

On top of the day to day real life abbreviations, you also now have a
slew of in game ones to throw you off. World of Warcraft has brought
over many different strings of capital letter words and given birth to
a few of it's own. As if general gaming talk wasn't hard enough to
follow already, Warlocks bring their own little confusions to the table
with their spells, talents, curses and pet abbreviations. This can all
be very daunting for a first time player and such, we here at The
Warlocks Den have created a list of the most commonly used Warlock and
general WoW used abbreviations to help you follow the lingo. Please
note this list does not contain every one used, the kids come up with
new ones every day and it would be impossible to list them all. Instead
these are the ones you will see most used in groups, guild and general
chat.

If you know of one that you think should be added, by all means please let me know and we can get it added in.

Warlock General
Lock - Warlock
OP - Over Powered, what all the talent-less players call Warlocks when they get their rear end handed to them.
Warlock Spells
Conf/Conflag - Conflagrate
DC - Death Coil
DD - Direct Damage (like Shadowbolt)
DL - Drain Life
DM - Drain Mana
DoT - Damage over Time (Like Corruption)
DP - Dark Pact
DS - Demonic Sacrifice or possibly Drain Soul
FD - Fel Domination
HF - Hellfire or Health Funnel
HoT - Howl of Terror
iHoT - Instance Howl of Terror
HS - Healthstone (shared with Hearthstone)
LT - Lifetap
RoF - Rain of Fire
SB - Generally Shadowbolt, but can also mean Shadowburn
SF - Soul Fire
SL - Generally Soul Link, but can also mean Siphon Life
SP - Searing Pain
SS - Generally Soulstone, but can also mean Spellstone

Tick
- The name given to the occasion when a DoT spell actually deals
damage, for example the spell Corruption deals X damage over 18 seconds
and deals damage every 3 seconds. Therefore it deals 6 individual
'ticks' of damage every 3 seconds.
Proc - The name given
to the situation where a special effect happens out of chance. For
example when a weapon with a 'Chance on Hit: Wounds the target for
220-300 damage' deals that extra damage, it is said to proc or have
proc'd (or something). This can apply to melee weapons, enchantments
(such as the Crusader or Fiery Weapon enchants) and spell effects (such
as Nightfall).
Instant Cast - Refers to spells that have
no cast time, but still suffer from the 1 second global cooldown for
all spells. Instant cast spells suffer from neither interruptions nor
cast-slowing effects like Curse of Tongues.
Timed Cast
- Refers to spells that require the caster to stand still and charge
the spell up for a certain amount of time before it is unleashed such
as Searing Pain, Shadowbolt etc. These spells suffer from interruptions
when hit and also suffer from cast-slowing effects like Curse of
Tongues. They are also susceptible to counterspelling.
Channel/Channeled
- Refers to spells that require the caster to stand still and channel,
taking time to unleash their full effect, such as Drain Life, Rain of
Fire, Hellfire etc. These spells are vulnerable to counterspelling and
suffer from interruptions when the caster is struck. You lose about 40%
of the total channeling time if interrupted regardless of the spell's
duration (Totally ridiculous if you ask me).

Curse of Agony - Curse of Agony

CoE - Curse of Elements
CoEx - Curse of Exhaustion
